Sunset Park is one of the parks here in Vegas i stop at from time to time. I enjoy the serenity of this park with the lake & different species of fowl. I enjoy nature a lot so this is a perfect fit for me to take a walk and think about things or projects that I'm working on.
Here is a little more info about this park..
Sunset Park, one of the largest parks in Las Vegas, is located near McCarran Airport in the southeast part of town. The park is bordered by Sunset Road on the north, Eastern Avenue to the west, Warm Springs Road.
History
Accumulation of the land for the park began in 1909, when it became the Miller Ranch. It later became the Vegas Stock Farm, which trained and raced Thoroughbred racehorses. Clark County, Nevada acquired the property in 1967 and turned it into a park.
Fishing
Fishing is available year round in the pond. The State of Nevada Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks the pond weekly with rainbow trout from November to March, and with channel catfish monthly from April to October. Other species include bluegill, redear sunfish, black crappie and largemouth bass.
Disc Golf Course
Sunset Park has a 27 hole disc (Frisbee) golf course located off Eastern along the western edge of the park. The course's size is 7608 ft by 8775 ft. There are 24 mixed tees (concrete holes). The course is used for leagues, tournaments and public use.
Remote Control Boating
The south end of the lake contains an area for Remote Control Boating. Competition model boating events are held every year.
Other Amenities
Sunset Park has tennis courts, basketball courts, fitness tracks and picnic areas.
